As I from Russia I to you will tell about Gzhel.
Gzhel is the most known Russian national ceramic craft.
The area situated near Moscow from 30 villages was famous for the pottery from XVI century
The most ancient local finds – fragments of the clay vessels decorated so-called Ornament a «pole», archeologists date in IV millenium BC
However the first documentary mentions of settlement on coast Gzhelki are found among Ivan Kality’s reading and writing from 1328.
The word “Gzhel” has come from hoary antiquity when the whole area with numerous heteronymic villages named Ognel, Akzhel, Zhgel – putting in names certain sense to “Burn down,”burn".

Why there was in this district a ceramic craft?
• First though peasants sowed here a rye, oats, a buckwheat, millet, but crops were poor. Therefore also spoke: “Not we are fed with the earth: our clay – gold!”
• Secondly, the big deposits high-quality clay with which coast Gzhelki were rich.
• Thirdly – presence of wood fuel for roasting was here in a prosperity.
First  were engaged in brick manufacture, and then completely have passed to toy ware. And gradually the whole country industry majolica, faience, porcelain, supplying an imperial table in XVIII? and XIX here has developed in
Were engaged at first majolica in ware – products from the color clay, covered with opaque glaze. In a majolica color was under construction on five colors: the white background, accented sounding lilac, green, yellow and dark blue
But, soon English faience on which there was a weight from special grades of clay in connection with a lime and other impurity began to force out a majolica.
Here then in imitation overseas ware there was for the first time Gzhel sine-white.
It seems far from the natural nature. But unless you think of it, when before you the present poetic world!. Gzhelsky dab especial, in it at once all scale of color – from the most dark to transparent light through which the basis is shone. Two, three touches of a brush and directly in the face of are born cornflowers, dandelions, camomiles, well-known “Gzhel rose”.

Then covered with glaze and tempered on fire, they amaze with juiciness of a dark blue list
“Why in Gzhel white and dark blue color prevails. Where could see such combination to see the master – the artist? Correctly, this harmony of color was seen by the master in the nature. In winter it is often possible to see a combination dark blue and white – the dark blue sky, hoarfrost on branches of trees against it. Dark blue shades on snow, bright reflections on a smooth surface of blue ice.
Gzhel it is fine.

Henry Clark

Editors of fashion magazines carried it on hands. With a command of models and stylists it has traveled all over the most exotic…
